Zildjian L80 Low Volume Cymbal Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

Comparing Zildjian L80 Alternatives

Arborea Low Volume 5-Piece Cymbal Pack

The Arborea Low Volume 5-Piece Cymbal Pack offers a broader range of sizes compared to the Zildjian L80’s three-piece set. It includes a 20-inch ride and 16-inch crash, providing more options for varied practice routines. Constructed from stainless steel, this pack prioritizes durability over the tonal nuance of traditional bronze. While the Zildjian L80 is optimized for quiet practice with sticks, brushes, and mallets, the Arborea set suits apartment drummers seeking a robust, low-volume solution. You get more cymbals for a smaller footprint, though the finish is silver rather than the classic goldfarben. This choice works best if you value piece count and rugged construction over specific traditional articulation.

Evans dB Low Volume Cymbal Pack

The Evans dB Low Volume Cymbal Pack expands your practice options with a four-piece set including 14, 16, 18, and 20-inch cymbals. It weighs 12.6 pounds, which is heavier than the Zildjian L80’s 8.3-pound set. The Evans pack uses a stainless alloy construction, offering balanced tone across essential sizes. While the Zildjian L80 focuses on an 80% volume reduction with a compact three-piece configuration, the Evans set provides a more complete practice kit. You gain an extra cymbal size and potentially more durability, but you sacrifice some portability and the specific low-volume tuning of the L80. This option is ideal for drummers who want a comprehensive low-volume setup without switching to digital drums.

Arborea Viking B10 Bronze 5-Piece Cymbal Pack

The Arborea Viking B10 Bronze 5-Piece Cymbal Pack shifts the focus from low volume to traditional acoustic performance. It features a 5-piece configuration with standard bronze construction, unlike the specialized low-volume materials of the Zildjian L80. This set is designed for players who want authentic bronze tones for practice or performance. You get a full complement of cymbals, including a 20-inch ride, but you lose the significant volume reduction that makes the L80 suitable for quiet spaces. The Arborea Viking is a better fit for drummers who prioritize traditional sound and feel over noise reduction. It is less suitable for apartment living but excellent for home studios where volume is less of a concern.

ULUOBO 7-Piece Low Volume Cymbal Pack

The ULUOBO 7-Piece Low Volume Cymbal Pack provides the most extensive collection in this comparison, with seven cymbals including a 20-inch ride and 16-inch crash. It weighs 12.6 pounds and features a silver finish. Unlike the Zildjian L80’s three-piece set, this pack offers a complete practice solution with included accessories. The ULUOBO set is designed for drummers who need a durable, low-volume kit for home use. You gain more cymbal variety and accessories, but you sacrifice the compactness and specific articulation tuning of the L80. This option is best for players who want a comprehensive set without the need for additional purchases, prioritizing volume reduction and completeness over the refined low-volume performance of the Zildjian brand.

Meinl Classics Custom Dark Crash Pack

The Meinl Classics Custom Dark Crash Pack is fundamentally different from the Zildjian L80, as it is designed for loud, professional performance rather than quiet practice. It features a dark finish and German craftsmanship, offering power and controlled decay. This pack is intended for rock, metal, and band settings where volume is not an issue. You get professional-grade cymbals with a distinct tonal character, but you lose the 80% volume reduction and low-volume articulation of the L80. This alternative is suitable only if you need cymbals for loud environments and do not require the noise-reduction features of the L80. It is not a direct substitute for quiet practice but serves as a high-performance option for different musical contexts.

Rhythm Bytes 13-Piece Low Volume Cymbal Bundle

The Rhythm Bytes 13-Piece Low Volume Cymbal Bundle offers a comprehensive practice solution with a full set of muted components and a carrying case. It includes 13 pieces, far exceeding the three cymbals in the Zildjian L80 set. The bundle is designed for drummers who want to practice anywhere, thanks to its portability and complete nature. While the L80 focuses on low-volume cymbal articulation, the Rhythm Bytes set provides a broader range of muted practice tools. You gain extensive coverage and portability, but you sacrifice the specific bronze-like sound and feel of the L80. This option is ideal for drummers who need a complete, portable silent setup rather than just low-volume cymbals for traditional playing.
