You are looking for tostar electric drum set beginners alternatives to find a kit that fits your specific practice space and skill level. The original TOSTAR TED-15 offers a compact, foldable design with 70 sounds and a complete accessory package. This makes it a practical entry point for those needing a space-saving solution. However, you might prefer a different form factor, more sounds, or a mesh pad surface for a quieter practice session.
This list compares 6 similar electronic drum sets that share key specifications with the TOSTAR model. We selected these alternatives because their specs overlap with the original, ensuring they serve a similar beginner audience. Our top pick: TOSTAR TED-15 Foldable Electric Drum Set.
How alternatives compare to TOSTAR
Donner DED-70 7-Piece Mesh Electronic Drum Set
The Donner DED-70 replaces silicone pads with mesh, offering a more realistic rebound for beginners who want to build proper technique. It includes 150 sounds, more than double the TOSTAR’s 70, giving you greater variety for practice. Both kits target beginners and include USB MIDI connectivity for computer integration. However, the Donner weighs 21 pounds, similar to the TOSTAR’s 22 pounds, but lacks the foldable frame that makes the TOSTAR easier to store. If you prioritize pad feel and sound count over compact storage, this is a strong alternative. It includes sticks, ensuring you have the essentials ready to play immediately.
Umelody UED-100 Large Electric Drum Kit
The Umelody UED-100 is a large kit designed for beginners who need a full package including a throne, which the TOSTAR also provides. It features USB MIDI connectivity, matching the TOSTAR’s ability to connect to music software. The Umelody uses practice cymbals, similar to the TOSTAR’s low-volume design, ensuring quiet operation for home use. Unlike the TOSTAR’s foldable frame, this kit has a larger footprint with a length of 27.6 inches. It is a practical option for players who have more floor space and want a sturdy, non-folding setup. Both kits are black and target beginners, but the Umelody is better for those who do not need to fold their kit away after every session.
Vediya All-in-One Mesh Electronic Drum Set
The Vediya VMT offers 150 sounds, significantly more than the TOSTAR’s 70, providing a wider library for creative practice. It includes three cymbals, matching the TOSTAR’s count, and uses low-volume pads for quiet apartment living. The Vediya is larger, measuring 57 inches in length, compared to the TOSTAR’s 30-inch foldable design. This makes it less portable but potentially more stable during intense practice sessions. Both kits are aimed at beginners and include sticks. If you value a larger sound library and do not mind a fixed frame, the Vediya is a suitable choice. The TOSTAR remains better for those who need to store their kit in a small space due to its foldable nature.
MOSEN MED-X3S Full-Mesh Electronic Drum Kit
The MOSEN MED-X3S is a full-mesh kit, offering a more realistic playing experience than the TOSTAR’s silicone pads. It features a dual-zone snare, allowing for more complex techniques, which the TOSTAR lacks. The MOSEN weighs 32.1 pounds, heavier than the TOSTAR’s 22 pounds, indicating a sturdier metal frame. Both kits target beginners and include USB connectivity. The MOSEN is better suited for adult beginners who prioritize pad feel and durability over portability. It does not fold, so it requires permanent space. If you are an adult player who wants to practice with mesh heads and a robust frame, this kit offers a more advanced feel than the entry-level TOSTAR setup.
LEKATO CPD-1000 Portable Mesh Electronic Drum Set
The LEKATO CPD-1000 is a portable mesh kit, weighing only 14 pounds, which is lighter than the TOSTAR’s 22 pounds. It uses USB MIDI connectivity, similar to the TOSTAR, for digital integration. The LEKATO has a small footprint with a length of 19.7 inches, making it more compact than the TOSTAR’s 30-inch setup. It includes sticks and targets beginners who need expandable options. The TOSTAR includes a throne and is foldable, while the LEKATO focuses on portability and mesh pads. If you need a lightweight kit that is easy to move and store, the LEKATO is a practical alternative. It is ideal for players who prioritize size and weight over the included accessories found in the TOSTAR package.
Best Choice Products 5-Piece Kids Drum Set
The Best Choice Products 5-Piece Kit is an acoustic drum set, unlike the electronic TOSTAR. It weighs 45 pounds, significantly heavier than the TOSTAR’s 22 pounds. It includes five pieces and sticks, providing a complete starting point for young children. This kit is not electronic, so it does not offer USB MIDI connectivity or headphone practice options. It is designed for early rhythm training in small spaces. If you are looking for a traditional drum experience for a child who is not ready for electronic features, this is a suitable choice. It lacks the quiet practice capabilities of the TOSTAR but offers a classic acoustic feel for beginners who prefer real drums.
