How these options differ
Arborea Butcher B20 Bronze 5-Piece Set
The Arborea Butcher set uses B20 bronze instead of the brass found in the Sabian SBR. This material choice offers warmer tones and distinct hand-hammered details that brass cannot replicate. It includes a five-piece configuration with a 20-inch ride, a 16-inch crash, and 14-inch hi-hats. The original set provides sonically matched brass for a consistent beginner sound. Arborea targets drummers who prioritize traditional bronze warmth and specific cymbal sizes over the uniformity of a matched brass pack. You get a more versatile range of tones if you need a dedicated ride and crash, rather than a uniform set.
Sabian B8X Performance Set Plus
The Sabian B8X Performance Set Plus shifts from brass to bronze construction. This change delivers a traditional bronze sound profile compared to the brighter brass of the SBR. It weighs 16.9 pounds, which is heavier than the 6.61-pound SBR set, indicating more metal in the cymbals. This model also includes a free crash cymbal and a lesson trial. The original SBR focuses on a sonically matched brass experience. The B8X appeals to players who want the full range of sizes and the specific tonal characteristics of bronze. It suits those who value the extra crash and educational support alongside a versatile bronze collection.
Sabian XSR Performance Cymbal Set
The Sabian XSR Performance Set features a natural finish rather than the standard brass look of the original. It includes a bonus crash cymbal, expanding the set beyond the standard configuration of the SBR. The XSR weighs 16.5 pounds, significantly more than the 6.61-pound SBR, suggesting a different weight distribution and thickness. This set is designed for responsive tone and practice or small gigs. The original SBR provides a sonically matched brass set for beginners. The XSR offers a versatile package with a natural aesthetic and extra cymbal. It fits drummers who prefer a natural finish and the utility of an additional crash cymbal for their setup.
