5 Best Alternatives to the Sabian SBR Cymbal Set (2026)

How these cymbals compare to Sabian SBR

Meinl HCS Brass Cymbal Box Set with 10" Splash

The Meinl HCS Brass set replaces the Sabian’s natural finish with a traditional brass look. It weighs slightly less at 10 pounds and includes a 10-inch splash, matching the SBR’s bonus accessory. However, it lacks the included Drumeo trial found with the Sabian. The Meinl offers a brighter, more durable sound typical of German manufacturing. You should choose this if you want a complete brass setup without the educational bonus. It fits players who prioritize a bright tone and standard sizing over silent practice features. The package includes 14, 16, and 20-inch cymbals plus the splash.

Sabian XSR Super Cymbal Set

The Sabian XSR Super set doubles the weight to 20 pounds and offers a different configuration focused on crashes. It weighs twice as much as the 11-pound SBR and measures larger in height. This set excludes the free splash and Drumeo trial included with the original. It delivers faster crash response and more accurate hi-hats for drummers seeking versatility. You should pick this if you want a focused collection of crashes without bulk. It suits players who prioritize response and professional tone over the convenience of included accessories. The natural finish matches the SBR, but the sound profile is distinctively punchier.

Zildjian S Performer 4-Piece Cymbal Set

The Zildjian S Performer set weighs 16.4 pounds, significantly heavier than the 11-pound Sabian SBR. It includes a 16, 18, and 20-inch cymbal pair, differing from the SBR’s 20-inch ride. This set lacks the free splash and Drumeo trial found with the original. It delivers a complete, professional-grade collection with traditional bright-toned sound. You should choose this if you need standard sizing and professional quality over bonus accessories. It fits drummers who prioritize traditional sound and standard sizing. The natural finish aligns with the SBR, but the weight and configuration offer a heavier, more robust feel for live performance.

Zildjian L80 Low Volume Cymbals 13/18

The Zildjian L80 Low Volume set weighs only 7 pounds, much lighter than the 11-pound Sabian SBR. It includes only 13 and 18-inch cymbals, excluding the hi-hat and crash sizes found in the SBR. This specialized tool lacks the free splash and Drumeo trial. It is designed for quiet practice and hearing protection, fitting apartment dwellers. You should pick this if you need to keep volume down while maintaining responsiveness. It is not for those wanting standard acoustic sounds. The low-volume design sacrifices the full tonal range of the SBR for silence, making it ideal for small rooms.

Sabian AAX Natural Cymbal Set

The Sabian AAX Natural set weighs just 1 pound, far lighter than the 11-pound SBR. It includes a 16-inch crash, 14-inch hi-hats, and a 21-inch ride, differing from the SBR’s 20-inch ride. It excludes the free splash and Drumeo trial found with the original. This set offers versatile four-piece configuration for professional tone. You should choose this if you value quality sound over convenience accessories. It fits drummers seeking professional tone without the educational bonus. The natural finish matches the SBR, but the lighter weight and specific configuration cater to players prioritizing tonal quality and versatility over standard sizing and included extras.
