Sabian B8X Performance Set Plus Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

How these alternatives differ

Evans dB Low Volume Cymbal Pack

The Evans dB Low Volume Cymbal Pack targets quiet practice rather than standard acoustic volume. It uses stainless alloy construction, which differs from the original bronze material. This alloy offers high durability and a distinct tonal character suited for low-volume environments. The pack includes standard sizes of 14, 16, 18, and 20 inches, matching the original configuration. It weighs 12.6 pounds, making it slightly lighter than the original set. You should choose this if you need to reduce practice volume significantly while maintaining a traditional four-piece layout. It sacrifices the warm bronze tone for reduced decibel levels and rugged build quality.

Arborea Viking B10 Bronze 5-Piece Cymbal Pack

The Arborea Viking B10 Bronze 5-Piece Cymbal Pack expands the original setup by adding a fifth cymbal. It uses B10 bronze, offering a brighter, more lathed tone compared to the standard B8 bronze of the original. This pack is designed for beginners seeking clear articulation and a full range of sounds. It provides a complete five-piece configuration, which gives you more versatility for different musical styles. The original set focuses on a core four-piece performance sound. You should pick this alternative if you want a brighter tonal profile and need an extra crash or splash cymbal for expanded playing options. It prioritizes beginner-friendly clarity over the original's established performance character.

Meinl Classics Custom Dark Crash Pack

The Meinl Classics Custom Dark Crash Pack focuses on powerful, dark tones suitable for rock and metal genres. It features German-made durability and controlled decay, which differs from the original's standard performance sound. This pack is designed for players who need volume control without excessive ring in loud settings. It lacks the full four-piece configuration of the original, focusing instead on specific crash tones. You should choose this if you play in high-volume bands and need cymbals that cut through the mix with a dark, aggressive character. It sacrifices the versatility of a full set for specialized, high-impact performance in loud musical contexts. The dark finish also provides a distinct visual aesthetic.

Sabian XSR Performance Cymbal Set

The Sabian XSR Performance Cymbal Set offers a versatile five-piece configuration with a bonus crash, expanding on the original's four-piece layout. It is made of natural finish bronze, providing responsive tone and versatility for various playing styles. This set weighs 16.5 pounds, closely matching the original's 16.9 pounds. It is designed for drummers who need a broader range of sounds without sacrificing performance quality. You should pick this if you want a complete set with an extra cymbal for added flexibility. It maintains the Sabian performance heritage while offering more pieces for diverse musical applications. It is ideal for players who prioritize versatility and a comprehensive cymbal range over a minimal setup.

Zildjian A391 A Sweet Ride Bronze Cymbal Pack

The Zildjian A391 A Sweet Ride Bronze Cymbal Pack focuses on a clear, loud ride sound and reliable hi-hats. It is designed for drummers who do not need additional crash cymbals in their initial setup. This pack includes a 20-inch ride and 14-inch hi-hats, differing from the original's four-piece configuration. It weighs only 1 pound, making it significantly lighter than the original set. You should choose this if you prioritize ride and hi-hat performance over a full cymbal range. It is ideal for players who want focused, high-quality sounds for specific components rather than a complete set. It sacrifices crash versatility for superior ride and hi-hat articulation in traditional acoustic settings.

Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Cymbal Box Set

The Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Cymbal Box Set delivers a full range of traditional sounds for acoustic and hybrid setups. It features Turkish bronze quality and specific signature ride tones, differing from the original's standard performance bronze. This set is designed for musicians who value high-end tonal characteristics and craftsmanship. It includes a variety of cymbals, offering more versatility than the original four-piece pack. You should pick this if you need professional-grade sounds for acoustic or hybrid drumming. It sacrifices the simplicity of a standard set for superior tonal depth and signature characteristics. It is ideal for players who prioritize premium quality and specific tonal profiles over basic performance needs.
