Looking Beyond the Roland Generation 2 V-Drums TD-17KV2 Electronic Drum Set? 6 Alternatives Worth a Look

Comparing TD-17KV2 to the Alternatives

Donner DED-80 Mesh Electronic Drum Set

The Donner DED-80 offers a compact footprint measuring 17.7 by 10.8 by 28.1 inches and weighs 26.5 pounds, making it much smaller and lighter than the Roland TD-17KV2. It includes 180 sounds and low-volume cymbals for quiet practice. However, you give up the Roland five-piece setup, which includes a 12-inch double-mesh snare, three 10-inch toms with dual triggering, and thin-profile cymbals up to 14 inches. Roland also provides an advanced module with 70 preset kits and dedicated coaching tools. You should choose the Donner DED-80 if you need an entry-level mesh kit suited for tight spaces rather than an expansive full-size electronic rig.

VEVOR 5-Piece 16 in Kids Drum Set

The VEVOR 16-inch kit is a five-piece acoustic drum set built with wood shells and starter cymbals, designed for beginners aged 6 to 13. You get natural acoustic rebound and physical resonance without needing power outlets or cables. In contrast, you give up the electronic features of the Roland TD-17KV2, including silent headphone practice, 70 preset drum kits, and practice tools like Time Check. The Roland set also provides a 12-inch double-mesh snare and a full-size frame, while the VEVOR kit measures only 17.7 by 15.8 by 21.7 inches. Choose the VEVOR drum set if you want a child-sized acoustic kit instead of an electronic mesh setup.

Donner DED-70 7-Piece Mesh Electronic Drum Set

The Donner DED-70 focuses on portability with a light 21-pound design, folding hardware, and dual power options. It provides 150 sounds, low-volume cymbals, and USB MIDI connectivity for beginner recording and practice. However, you give up the high-end pad specifications of the Roland TD-17KV2, such as its 12-inch double-mesh snare, 10-inch dual-trigger toms, and 14-inch ride cymbal. Roland also delivers 70 complete preset kits, venue ambience control, and training modes like Quiet Count. You should choose the Donner DED-70 if you want an ultra-portable, battery-capable electronic kit for beginner practice, while the Roland kit suits players requiring a permanent, full-scale electronic drum configuration.

AODSK 400pro Compact Electronic Drum Set

The AODSK 400pro delivers 241 sounds and a compact 17-inch width, making it considerably smaller than Roland's 51.5-inch wide frame. At 19.8 pounds, it is easy to shift around, and it features a silent headphone output for quiet drills. What you lose compared to the Roland TD-17KV2 is pad size and trigger nuance. Roland provides a 12-inch double-mesh snare, three 10-inch toms with head and rim triggering, and a dedicated KD-10 kick pad. Roland also features custom sound customization and structured Coach mode tools. Choose the AODSK 400pro if your practice space is restricted and you want an entry kit with hundreds of sound options.

AODSK AED-403 Portable Mesh Electronic Drum Set

The AODSK AED-403 features foldable hardware and USB MIDI connectivity, weighing 28.7 pounds and measuring 35.4 inches wide. This design simplifies storage compared to the fixed 51.5-inch width of the Roland TD-17KV2. It provides low-volume mesh heads and starter cymbals tailored for teenagers and beginner practice. However, you miss out on Roland's TD-17 sound module, which offers 70 preset kits, onboard compression, and reverb adjustments. Roland also supplies larger playing surfaces, including a 12-inch PDX-12 snare and a 14-inch CY-14R-T ride cymbal. Pick the AODSK AED-403 if you need a foldable mesh set that stows away between sessions instead of an unyielding full-size setup.

VEVOR 5-Piece 22-Inch Full Size Adult Drum Set

The VEVOR 22-inch drum set is an adult-sized acoustic drum kit weighing 66.1 pounds. It gives you traditional acoustic drums and physical wood shell projection, offering authentic acoustic drum feedback. In comparison, the Roland TD-17KV2 is an electronic set built around mesh pads and digital sound generation. With the VEVOR kit, you lose silent practice capability, headphone monitoring, and the 70 preset drum kits inside Roland's TD-17 module. You also forfeit digital training aids like Coach mode and sample layering. Choose the VEVOR 22-inch drum set if you want full-scale acoustic drums and unamplified sound, rather than an electronic mesh kit built for volume-controlled environments.
